The search for Edward Berke, a New Hampshire native who fell overboard in Maine on the Fourth of July, has been suspended by the Coast Guard. Berke, 30, fell overboard from a recreational boat in Casco Bay near Clapboard Island. The Coast Guard coordinated a search covering nearly 350 square miles after receiving the call on Thursday evening. Despite finding a pair of Berke’s flip-flops in the water, no other signs of him were located. Capt. Matt Baker expressed the difficulty in suspending the search, emphasizing the hope of returning missing individuals to safety. There were three other people on the boat at the time of the incident. Boaters and kayakers are urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant sightings to authorities. Berke’s family hails from Bow, further emphasizing the emotional toll of the situation. The Coast Guard’s efforts to locate Berke highlight the dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of those in distress at sea.
