Prime Minister Edi Rama convened a meeting with mayors from all over the country to discuss the acceleration and monitoring of the legalization process in the country. He emphasized the importance of mayors getting involved in this process, which is currently being handled by the Cadastre amidst scandals and corruption. The focus of the meeting was on prioritizing housing legalization, with Prime Minister Rama stressing the need for municipalities to take the lead in this process.
The meeting was called in response to concerns raised by members of the Socialist Party, particularly Erion Brace, regarding the slow progress of legalization compared to property registrations. Prime Minister Rama urged mayors to establish priorities and work plans for the legalization office, in order to speed up the process and ensure transparency. He also emphasized the need to combat corruption in the Cadastre, where officials often abuse their power and demand bribes.
As part of the effort to streamline the legalization process, municipalities were instructed to establish dedicated staff teams by September and make use of a digital work platform provided by AKSH. Prime Minister Rama stressed the importance of completing the legalization process for housing in a timely manner, despite the law allowing until 2028 for completion. Overall, the meeting aimed to improve the progress of legalization and ensure that municipalities play a more active role in addressing this important issue.
