Hiram, Maine’s Maine Construction Academy is Educating in the Trade Industry

The construction industry in Maine is booming, with a growth rate of 12 percent compared to 8 percent nationally. To help fill the demand for skilled workers, about a dozen Maine schools are collaborating with the Maine Construction Academy to train students in various trades. Students are getting hands-on experience in welding, operating heavy equipment, and other aspects of construction. The program also provides students with certifications in first aid, CPR, and basic construction skills.

The Maine Construction Academy, launched by the Associated General Contractors of Maine, aims to attract a new generation of skilled workers to the construction industry. Students like Bradlee Dyer and Brady Knudsen are finding their passion in construction and are excited about the opportunities the industry offers. The program also equips students with personal protective equipment and a new set of power tools.

With over 150 students participating in the program, the goal is to engage at least 75 new individuals in construction careers. The Academy provides students with valuable skills and opportunities for successful careers in construction. The program culminates in interviews with construction companies and lessons in money management, empowering students to pursue careers in the thriving construction industry in Maine.
