Athar Almatrah, a woman involved with the Finks motorcycle gang, was sentenced to 20 months in jail for luring Mongols bikie Rocco Curra into an ambush where he was shot multiple times in the head, chest, and neck. Almatrah created a fake Instagram account and set up a date with Curra in exchange for a promised $5000 payment. She did not know a gun would be involved but anticipated Curra would be seriously injured. The shooting was part of a revenge plan by Finks members over the shooting of one of their own members. One of the accused shooters, Sione Hokafonu, was acquitted by a jury, while the other alleged shooter had his charges dropped. Almatrah never received the money she was promised and continued to press for payment even after being questioned by police. In a letter to the court, she expressed regret for her actions and acknowledged the harm they caused. Almatrah has already served 43 days behind bars and must serve at least half of her sentence before she is eligible for parole. The incident highlights the dangerous and violent nature of the rivalry between motorcycle gangs in Australia.
