Evacuation Orders Arrived in July – Our Only Choice Was a Bombed Gaza Flat | Gaza

Ruwaida Amer and her family are currently living in a burnt apartment amidst debris in a refugee camp in Khan Younis, the same camp they fled to multiple times during Ruwaida’s childhood. The ongoing war in the region has forced them to leave their home, despite Ruwaida’s determination to remain. The family initially sought refuge at the European Hospital when bombings became too intense, but eventually had to evacuate their neighborhood in July following an order from the Israeli army.

With no other options, Ruwaida and her family moved into the remains of her sister’s apartment, which had been destroyed in the bombings. The apartment has no walls, no ceiling, no water in the tanks, and limited access to basic necessities. Living in the refugee camp amidst the destruction is a constant struggle, with challenges such as lack of clean water, destroyed infrastructure, and fear of the unstable building collapsing.

Ruwaida reflects on the despair and uncertainty of living in such conditions, where even basic tasks like cleaning the kitchen become difficult due to lingering ash. The family’s situation highlights the harsh realities faced by many Palestinian refugees during the ongoing conflict, where displacement, destruction, and lack of resources are a daily struggle. Despite the challenges, Ruwaida remains resilient, holding onto hope that one day they will be able to rebuild and return to a sense of normalcy.
