Hundreds of mourners gathered in Cabot, Pa., to honor Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief who was shot and killed at a rally for former President Donald Trump. The funeral procession included the playing of bagpipes, a gun salute, and taps, as Comperatore’s casket was carried from a church to his hometown for burial. Comperatore, who shielded his wife and daughter from gunfire at the rally, was remembered by Trump at the Republican National Convention, where he was hailed as an “unbelievable person.”
The funeral drew a large turnout of community members who lined the streets to pay their respects to the fallen hero. The procession included members of various fire departments and other emergency vehicles, as well as sharpshooter teams to provide security. Comperatore’s family, including his wife and daughters, delivered testimonies at the funeral service, which was closed to the media.
The community came together to support the Comperatore family during this difficult time, with residents lining the streets, waving flags, and displaying signs in tribute to the fallen firefighter. The outpouring of support extended beyond the local community, with thousands attending a visitation and a vigil held in Comperatore’s honor.
In addition to honoring Comperatore, Trump and former first lady Melania Trump sent a note of condolences to his family, describing him as a “True American Hero.” Two others were wounded at the rally, but both were reported to be in serious but stable condition. Comperatore, a project and tooling engineer, Army reservist, and volunteer firefighter, was remembered as a beloved father, husband, and friend who had an impact on many lives in the Butler region.
