Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has taken steps to officially change her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. She posted an announcement in The Los Angeles Times, in accordance with California law that requires publishing legal forms in a newspaper for one month before a name change can be approved by a judge. Shiloh filed paperwork to remove “Pitt” from her name on her 18th birthday in May, citing a desire connected to the abuse history between her parents.
Shiloh is the third child of Jolie and Pitt to remove their father’s last name, following Zahara and Vivienne. Pitt has reportedly been devastated by Shiloh’s decision, as he has a strained relationship with his children. A hearing for Jolie-Pitt’s pending name change is scheduled for July 29.
The former couple, who have been engaged in a messy court battle since their divorce in 2016, have a total of six children together, including Shiloh. Jolie and Pitt were initially drawn to each other while filming the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005. Jolie has accused Pitt of assault and verbal abuse in 2016, leading to their split. Despite the accusations, the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to press charges.
