Argentina in Paris Olympics lodges complaint following robbery at training camp prior to match against Morocco

The Argentina men’s football team had a tough day at the Paris Olympics as they lost 2-1 to Morocco and suffered a robbery at their training camp in Lyon. The delegation filed a police complaint after midfielder Thiago Almada’s watch was among the items taken. Head coach Javier Mascherano called the incidents disagreeable and unacceptable.

The match in Saint-Étienne was suspended for nearly two hours due to Morocco fans storming the pitch to protest an equalizer goal from Argentina. The game eventually resumed after fans were cleared from the stadium. Argentina’s press and coach deemed the situation during the match as ridiculous and a scandal.

The Argentina Football Federation issued a formal protest to FIFA and promised to ensure the safety of players. Mascherano criticized the handling of the situation by the main referee and expressed frustration over the chaos that ensued during the match. Paris organisers stated they were investigating the causes and considering appropriate actions after the incidents in Saint-Étienne.

The country’s football association president, Claudio Tapia, expressed disappointment over the events and called for the enforcement of competition rules to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Overall, Argentina’s performance at the Olympics was marred by the robbery and chaos during their match against Morocco, highlighting the challenges faced by the team in their quest for success.
