The China Agricultural University, Morogoro regional government, and Sokoine University of Agriculture have launched a three-year program to improve maize production in Morogoro. The focus is on reducing poverty by enhancing agricultural production and increasing local peasants’ productivity using improved seeds, local labor, and farmland. The program, led by the CAU president, Mr. Sun Qixin, aims to increase yields and income by sharing China’s experiences in agricultural development, particularly in government support and labor-intensive technology. The program also aims to explore poverty reduction models focused on food security and technical exchanges to create effective China-Africa cooperation models. The project aims to enhance cooperation between local governments, research institutions, and rural communities to improve agriculture and peasants’ livelihoods. The China ambassador to Tanzania, Wang Ke, pledged ongoing support in the agricultural sector to help industrialize Tanzania’s economy. Partner organizations in the project include the Planning Commission, ministries of Agriculture and Science and Technology, Regional Administration, and Local government in Morogoro and SUA.
