Two individuals hospitalized following three-car collision in Oakland

A three-vehicle crash on Smithfield Road in Oakland resulted in two people being hospitalized on Monday. The accident involved a pickup truck hauling a trailer, which flipped over, causing lawn-care equipment to scatter. The crash occurred near a scenic overlook when a Nissan Altima crossed the center line and collided with a Dodge pickup truck. The impact caused a Subaru Forester to swerve off the road and into trees. Debris from the collision struck the Subaru, which had multiple passengers. The force of the collision caused the trailer’s axle to detach from the pickup truck and equipment to be thrown from the trailer. Two individuals, including the drivers of the Altima and the Subaru, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Smithfield Road was closed for over an hour as emergency crews responded to the scene. The pickup truck and Altima were destroyed, while the Subaru sustained damage and all three vehicles were towed from the scene. Several agencies, including Oakland Fire and Rescue, Waterville Police Department, Maine State Police, Delta Ambulance, and the Maine Warden Service, assisted with the incident. The collision was so intense that it caused the road pavement to be torn up. The details and photos of the crash were provided by the Oakland Police Department and the Oakland Fire Department.
