The Maine Association of REALTORS Foundation has distributed $140,000 in grants to 16 organizations in Maine through its 2024 Competitive Grant Program to address various housing needs. The grants, funded from the REALTOR Affordable Housing Fund, aim to assist non-profit organizations in providing housing solutions for vulnerable households in Maine. The grants ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 and were awarded to organizations such as shelters, housing trusts, domestic violence assistance programs, Habitat for Humanity chapters, and youth housing services.
Ashlee Simpson Black, Chair of the Maine Association of REALTORS Foundation, highlighted the importance of addressing the affordable housing crisis in Maine and commended the efforts of the REALTORS in giving back to their communities. The Foundation has been distributing grants since 1991 and has allocated over $1.6 million to address housing needs in the state.
The organizations receiving grants will use the funds for various initiatives, such as shelter operations, home repairs, transitional housing, emergency assistance, and supporting low-income individuals and families at risk of homelessness. The grants are aimed at providing safe and stable housing options for those in need across Maine.
The REALTOR Affordable Housing Fund, established in 1989, derives its revenue from interest earnings on real estate trust accounts administered by REALTOR offices throughout Maine. The Foundation encourages individuals to reach out for more information about the grant program.
