The Boston Red Sox have signed right-hander Brad Keller to a one-year contract after he was released by the Chicago White Sox. Keller, 28, previously had a 0-2 record with a 4.86 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances with the White Sox. Red Sox manager Alex Cora expressed interest in Keller’s pitching abilities, noting that he has good stuff. Keller previously played for the Kansas City Royals, with a 38-53 record and a 4.27 ERA in 114 starts and 36 relief appearances from 2018-23.
In addition to signing Keller, the Red Sox have also optioned right-hander Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester after he gave up one run and two hits in Saturday’s game against Milwaukee. Kelly currently holds a 0-1 record with a 2.16 ERA in 11 relief appearances. On a different note, right-hander Garrett Whitlock has announced that his season is over as he plans to undergo surgery to repair his right ulnar collateral ligament with an internal brace.
This latest signing and roster moves come as the Red Sox look to strengthen their pitching staff and make necessary adjustments ahead of the upcoming games. Fans can expect to see Keller in action soon as he joins the team for the remainder of the season.
