An Israeli civilian has been killed by a rocket fired from Lebanon, causing one casualty in kibbutz Hagoshrim, according to Israel’s N12 news channel. The Israeli military reported that 10 rockets were fired from Lebanon. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that Washington does not believe a fight between Israel and Hezbollah is inevitable and would like to see a diplomatic resolution. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni urged Israel not to retaliate and expressed concern over the escalating situation in Lebanon. In related news, nine Israeli soldiers are facing allegations of sexual abuse of a Palestinian at a detention facility during the conflict in Gaza. The soldiers’ detention sparked protests demanding their release. The Gaza civil defense agency reported that 300 people have been killed in an Israeli assault on Khan Younis, with bodies being recovered and many still missing.
Meanwhile, airlines have cancelled flights to Lebanon due to fears of escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, while business continues as usual at Beirut Airport. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the UK is committed to a two-state solution but does not believe it is the right time to recognize a Palestinian state. Hezbollah claimed they fired at Israeli warplanes in response to recent events. Lammy has advised British nationals to leave Lebanon. Thousands of Palestinians have returned to their homes in Khan Younis following the end of a week-long incursion by Israeli forces aimed at preventing Hamas from regrouping. Gaza officials reported 42 bodies recovered and 200 people still missing. The Israeli military stated that more than 150 Palestinian gunmen were killed during the raid.
