Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are neck and neck in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, with 43% and 42% support respectively among registered voters. In a previous poll, Harris had a slight lead over Trump, but the latest results show a tighter race. Meanwhile, Arizona senator Mark Kelly is a potential VP pick for Harris, and Joe Biden and Brazil’s president have called for transparency in Venezuela’s election data release.
Anita Dunn, a longtime adviser to President Biden, is leaving the White House to join a super PAC supporting Harris’ presidential campaign. Dunn’s departure follows Biden’s recent debate performance against Trump and is the first among senior staff. Harris is preparing to embark on a battleground tour next week and is expected to name her running mate by August 7th.
Additionally, Harris has gained ground against Trump in six of seven swing states since Biden’s exit from the race, according to a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll. They are currently tied in Georgia, with Harris leading in Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, while Trump is ahead in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The poll has a margin of error between 3 and 5 points.
Harris’ campaign has announced a $50 million advertising blitz leading up to the Democratic national convention next month and recently held a successful fundraising event with celebrities and top Democrats. The race between Harris and Trump continues to be closely watched as the presidential election approaches.
