The order of referendums for the November 2024 statewide ballot has been determined through a public lottery held by Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn. According to Maine law, questions must be arranged in a specific order including carry-over measures, people’s veto questions, initiated measures, bond issues, constitutional amendments, and other legislatively proposed referendums. The questions must also be numbered sequentially within each group in a random order determined publicly.
The initiatives on the ballot will appear in the following order:
– Question 1 addresses setting a $5,000 limit for giving to political action committees.
– Question 2 proposes a $25,000,000 bond issue for research and development and commercialization.
– Question 3 is for a $10,000,000 bond issue to restore historic community buildings.
– Question 4 seeks approval for a $30,000,000 bond issue to invest in trail development for outdoor recreation and active transportation.
– Question 5 asks voters if they favor making the former state flag, commonly known as the Pine Tree Flag, the official flag of Maine.
These questions cover a range of topics including campaign finance, research and development funding, historic building restoration, trail investment, and the state flag. Voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on these issues in the upcoming election.
