Skowhegan’s annual River Fest celebration is set to take place this year from Wednesday to Saturday, with various events and activities centered around the Kennebec River. The festival will include a Glow Stick Paddle, a parade, Moonlight Madness street party, live music, bed races, axe throwing, and inflatable kayaking trips down the river. The event is expected to draw at least 2,500 people and will end with fireworks on Saturday night. The festival is organized by Main Street Skowhegan, with the goal of activating downtown assets and promoting outdoor recreation and the river for community and economic benefit. River Fest is also a reminder of the town’s greater vision for the planned River Park, which is expected to draw outdoor tourism and contribute millions of dollars to the local economy. The park’s first phase is set to include whitewater wave features, a river access path, and in-river debris removal, with future phases adding more amenities. Construction on the park is slated to begin in spring 2025. For a full schedule and more information on River Fest events, visit runofriver.org.
