The University of Maine will be hosting two big games this weekend, with the women’s basketball team facing UMass-Lowell in the America East Tournament and the men’s hockey team taking on UMass-Amherst before the postseason. The women’s basketball team recently clinched the America East regular season championship and will be led by coach Amy Vachon and player Anne Simon, who earned Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Adrianna Smith was also named to the All-Conference First Team. For the men’s hockey team, they are aiming to clinch the No. 3 seed in the Hockey East tournament and return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The team, led by head coach Ben Barr, has been consistently ranked in the top ten nationally throughout the season. Freshmen Bradly and Josh Nadeau have been instrumental in the team’s success, with Bradly being drafted in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes. Both brothers hail from St. Francois-de-Madawaska and have been crucial to Maine’s strong showing this season. The men’s hockey team will close out the regular season with games against UMass-Amherst in a senior weekend celebration, while the women’s basketball team is focused on making a strong showing in the upcoming America East Tournament.
