Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks at a Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority gathering in Houston, where she emphasized the need for Black women to organize and defeat former President Donald Trump’s false assertions about her race. Harris, who is the first Black woman and Asian American vice president, responded to Trump’s comments about her race during her speech, calling it “the same old show: the divisiveness and disrespect.” She highlighted the importance of unity and truthfulness in leadership and encouraged the audience to register people to vote and ensure they go to the polls. Harris, a graduate of Howard University and a member of several historically Black organizations, stressed the power of organizing and unity in bringing about change. This is the second speech Harris has given to a historically Black fraternity or sorority in as many weeks, following her address to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. in Indianapolis. Harris’ message to the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority members was clear: unity, organization, and truth are essential in building a better future for all Americans.
