An elderly man accidentally drove his pickup truck into the front entrance of the Ellsworth branch of TD Bank on Monday, causing damage to both the truck and the building. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. The driver, 83-year-old Martin Brecher of Blue Hill, mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while pulling up in front of the bank.
The white Chevrolet Silverado truck was towed away after the accident, but the bank branch remained open with business redirected to the drive-thru while workers cleaned up and ensured the facade was stable. This incident marked the second time in a year that the bank had experienced damage, with a free-standing sign being blown down during a storm last December.
Captain Shawn Willey of the Ellsworth Police Department confirmed that there were no estimates for the monetary damage caused to the truck or the building. The Ellsworth American reported on the incident, emphasizing that no injuries had occurred during the crash. The bank’s location next to the Ramada Inn on High Street was temporarily affected by the accident but continued to operate as usual following the cleanup efforts.
