FBI probes alleged hack of sensitive Trump campaign documents by Iran

The FBI announced on Monday that it is investigating allegations of sensitive documents from the Trump campaign being stolen in a cyber intrusion. This news comes days after the campaign claimed it had been hacked by Iran. While the campaign did not provide specific evidence of Iran’s involvement, the claim follows a report by Microsoft detailing foreign agents’ attempts to interfere in the U.S. campaign in 2024.

According to the Microsoft report, an Iranian military intelligence unit sent a spear-phishing email to a high-ranking official of a presidential campaign in June. This email was sent from a compromised email account of a former senior advisor. The FBI confirmed that they are investigating the matter, but Iran’s mission to the United Nations denied any involvement in the Trump campaign hacking.

The investigation into the stolen sensitive documents is ongoing, and the FBI has not released further details at this time. The issue of foreign interference in U.S. elections continues to be a concern, and efforts to address and prevent cyber intrusions remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
