The Tozier’s Family Market in Searsport, which closed suddenly last month, is expected to have a new owner by the end of the week, according to Town Manager James Gillway. The prospective buyer, who is not named, currently operates stores in Maine and plans to reopen the grocery store in mid to late fall. The buyer intends to make changes to the store, including a new name and reconstruction of the parking lot. The sidewalk outside is currently being rebuilt as part of a larger road project on Route 1.
Gillway mentioned that many residents of Searsport are looking forward to the store reopening as they miss having a neighborhood grocery store. The Tozier’s Family Market in Brewer and Bucksport are not part of the sale, and the Tozier family operation will continue in those locations. Dale and Mary-Jo Tozier, the current owners of the Searsport store, could not be reached for comment.
The store was illuminated inside but not open to the public as of Monday. The community is optimistic about the expected reopening of the grocery store, as it is a staple in the neighborhood. Overall, the sale of Tozier’s Family Market in Searsport marks a hopeful turn for residents and business owners in the area.
