An amphitheater will be added to Brewer park for outdoor performances

Brewer, Maine, will soon be home to a new amphitheater at Indian Trail Park thanks to a $265,000 contract with Lou Silver Inc. The city council approved the project, which aims to provide formal seating and improved access for outdoor performances and events at the popular hillside park.

The amphitheater project is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Program, with $300,000 allocated for the construction of granite seating, stairs, and a paved access ramp at the 4-acre park along Route 9. The park, which overlooks the Penobscot River and features its own parking and trail system, has long been used for outdoor performances but lacked formal seating for audiences.

The new seating area is expected to accommodate 50 to 100 people, providing a more efficient and exciting venue for events like Shakespeare productions by the Ten Buck Theatre Company. Construction of the amphitheater must be completed by the end of 2025, with the possibility of a more formal stage area being constructed later.

City councilors and community members are optimistic about the addition of the amphitheater, which will enhance the park’s ability to host arts events and outdoor performances in the coming years. The project represents a significant investment in Brewer’s cultural and recreational amenities, providing residents and visitors with a new space to enjoy outdoor entertainment in a beautiful setting overlooking the river.
