Pearl, a unique Blue English Orpington Hen, made a splash at the Windsor Farm’s annual poultry show over the weekend. Prepared with a special bath and pampering from her owner Heidi Dunlap, Pearl stood out among the other hens at the fairgrounds in Windsor. The 10-day Windsor Fair, the second largest agricultural fair in Maine, opened over the weekend with a focus on poultry judging. The event drew around 100,000 attendees eager to see a variety of birds on display.
Judges meticulously inspected each bird, including Pearl, based on feathers, coloring, and posture, among other criteria. While Pearl may have come with a hefty price tag compared to farm hens, she was a star at the show. Participants like Heidi and her family have been showcasing their unique birds at events like the Windsor Fair for years, passing on the tradition to younger generations.
This year, the fair introduced new events like manure and fry pan-throwing contests, farmers’ Olympics, and a cornhole tournament to attract a wider audience. With popular local bands scheduled to perform and Wi-Fi available throughout the park, the fair promises entertainment for all ages. Tom Foster, president of the Windsor Fair, highlighted the diverse range of activities and displays, from agricultural events to historical showcases.
The Windsor Fair will continue daily until Labor Day, offering visitors a chance to enjoy traditional fair activities and explore the rich agricultural history of the region. With a variety of events and attractions, the fair aims to provide a fun and engaging experience for all attendees.
