Allies of Trump rally to boost his spirits as he faces challenges adapting to Harris

Former President Donald Trump has been described as looking bored and dour at recent events, leading to speculation about his level of engagement in the presidential campaign. Despite concerns from aides about his lack of focus, Trump has been engaged in back-to-back events aimed at counterprogramming the Democratic National Convention and securing news coverage. However, some former aides have criticized Trump for running a low-energy and undisciplined campaign, with one saying he has lost his mojo.
During a recent event in Glendale, Ariz., Trump seemed to find his stride, engaging with the audience and polling them on a nickname for Vice President Kamala Harris. His campaign insists that he has had a robust schedule and has been discussing substantive policy issues, contrasting his approach with Harris’s supposed refusal to do so.
However, Trump has faced criticism for his focus on personal attacks and insults rather than policy issues. He has also struggled to define Harris, describing her as a “communist” and openly mocking his advisers for suggesting he focus on politics instead of personal insults. Despite these challenges, Trump has garnered endorsements from figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and is hoping to secure one from Tulsi Gabbard.
As the campaign continues, Trump faces questions about his strategy and focus, with some allies working to address concerns and improve his messaging. Meanwhile, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are campaigning together in Georgia, highlighting the differing approaches of the two campaigns.
