Police in Germany have arrested a suspect in connection with a knife attack in Solingen that left three people dead and eight wounded. The suspect, who had been the subject of a manhunt, surrendered to authorities following the incident on Friday night. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State group, who stated that it was carried out in retaliation for Muslims in Palestine. Two additional arrests were made in connection with the stabbings, including a 15-year-old boy who reportedly had prior knowledge of the attacks. The victims of the attack were two men aged 67 and 56, and a 56-year-old woman. The attacker specifically targeted the victims’ throats during the rampage.
The city of Solingen was hosting a ‘Festival of Diversity’ to celebrate its 650th anniversary, but the event was cancelled following the attack. The suspect’s arrest brings some relief to the community and the authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state. The arrest of the suspect and the subsequent investigation will shed more light on the motives behind the attack and provide closure to the families of the victims. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism and violence in Germany and the need for continued vigilance and security measures.
