As the war in Ukraine enters its 912th day, the situation on Sunday, August 25, 2024 saw intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces. Russia launched missiles and drones targeting northern and eastern Ukraine, with Ukraine’s defence systems successfully intercepting most of the weapons. However, several civilians were killed and injured in Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod region.
In a separate incident, two journalists were injured and one remains missing after a Russian attack on a hotel in the city of Kramatorsk. Ukraine also claimed to have downed five drones over the Voronezh region in Russia, injuring two people. Diplomatically, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 115 prisoners of war, facilitated by the United Arab Emirates.
President Zelenskyy of Ukraine announced the development of a new “drone missile” named Palianytsia, which he claimed would target Russia. Zelenskyy criticized Russian President Putin, calling him a “sick old man from Red Square” and accusing Russia of wanting to “destroy” Ukraine. Additionally, Ukraine is seeking permission from Western allies to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to hit targets deep inside Russia in hopes of ending the conflict.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is causing significant casualties and destruction, with both sides engaging in relentless attacks and military operations. The situation remains volatile as diplomatic efforts continue alongside escalating military actions.
