A journalist from the US is missing and two others, from Ukraine and the UK, were injured after Russian forces attacked a hotel in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine. The missing person is believed to be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed Hotel Sapphire. Rescuers are working to recover them as the search continues in the Donetsk region.
The journalists were part of a war coverage team in Ukraine and were staying at the hotel when it was hit by what is believed to be a missile strike. The wounded journalists suffered a range of injuries, including mind-blast trauma, concussion, broken bones, and cuts. Nearby buildings were also damaged in the attack.
Residents of Kramatorsk described the terrifying experience of the attack, with one saying they felt the wave of the explosion even though no damage was done. In neighboring Kharkiv region, multiple civilian injuries were reported after Russian forces targeted residential areas. Houses were destroyed, and people were injured in various locations due to the attacks.
The international community has condemned the attacks on civilians and journalists, calling for a swift and thorough investigation into the incidents. Efforts are ongoing to support those affected by the violence and to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
