Guardians prevent being swept by Royals

The Cleveland Guardians rallied to a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, reclaiming sole possession of first place in the AL Central. Rookie Jhonkensy Noel’s go-ahead single in the seventh inning helped secure the win for the Guardians, who trailed 5-2 earlier in the game. Cleveland’s bullpen stepped up, with Eli Morgan earning the win and Emmanuel Clase notching his 39th save of the season.

The win was crucial for the Guardians, who had been tied with the Royals for first place in the division. The victory also ended Kansas City’s seven-game road winning streak. In addition to Noel’s heroics, Bo Naylor and Andrés Giménez contributed with key hits to secure the win for Cleveland.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs completed a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 14-10 victory. Christian Bethancourt was the star for the Cubs, driving in seven runs including a crucial two-run single in the ninth inning that gave Chicago the lead. The Cubs overcame a seven-run deficit thanks to Bethancourt’s heroics and a strong offensive performance from players like Pete Crow-Armstrong and Ian Happ.

In other news, the Royals placed starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen on the injured list, the Mariners reinstated shortstop J.P. Crawford from the IL, and the Athletics placed outfielder Miguel Andujar on the IL due to a core muscle injury. These roster moves will have an impact on their respective teams as the season progresses.
