Marden’s Surplus & Salvage Celebrates 60 Years in Maine

Waterville, ME – This summer, Marden’s Surplus & Salvage is celebrating its 60th anniversary as a Maine business offering deals to customers on salvaged merchandise at store locations statewide. The Marden’s family, staff, and community partners gathered on August 7th to kick off a year of celebrating this milestone and the more than 650 employees who have contributed to the company’s success.

Founded in 1964 by mail carrier and auctioneer Mickey Marden, the business first opened its doors in Fairfield. Marden’s mission was to provide products at shockingly low prices by finding salvaged merchandise and negotiating deals with various sources. Over the years, the business has grown to have 13 locations across the state and is now a staple in communities such as Biddeford, Lewiston, and Scarborough.

In addition to providing bargain deals to customers, Marden’s has also established itself as a philanthropic leader in the Maine community. The company supports organizations such as Maine Children’s Home, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Make a Wish Maine. Marden’s and Maine Children’s Home are celebrating their 20-year partnership in supporting Maine children in need through the Red Stocking Program.

This program, run by Maine Children’s Home, provides essential items such as clothing and toys to over 1,100 children facing financial hardship during the holiday season. To date, Marden’s and its customers have raised $786,446 to support this important initiative.
