The Minnesota Twins have added relief pitcher Michael Tonkin to their roster by claiming him off waivers from the New York Yankees. This marks the fifth team Tonkin has been a part of in just nine months. Tonkin, a 34-year-old right-hander, has a career 4.23 ERA in over 290 innings of relief pitching. He previously pitched for the Twins for five seasons before moving to Japan in 2018 and returning to the major leagues in 2023 with the Atlanta Braves. The Twins also designated right-handed reliever Trevor Richards for assignment after he struggled with control issues, leading the majors with 13 wild pitches in just over 65 innings.
In other baseball news, the White Sox are facing a lawsuit from a woman who was shot in the leg during a game last year, and the Cubs stole eight bases in a game for the first time in over 100 years. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants have placed two pitchers, Robbie Ray and Jordan Hicks, on the injured list, and the Cincinnati Reds have lost starting pitcher Nick Lodolo to a left middle finger sprain, adding to their list of injured pitchers which already includes Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott.
