Bangor voters will have the opportunity to approve over $2 million in general obligation bonds for the construction of a new multi-use public safety training facility this November. The proposed building, with an open concept design, will provide indoor space for training, equipment maintenance, and storage for safety apparatus and equipment. The facility would be built near the city’s existing fire training center on Odlin Road.
City councilors in Bangor have agreed to add the funding request to the local ballot in November. The project was initially approved with $2 million in funding during the finalization of the fiscal year 2025 budget. However, due to a city rule requiring voter approval for single capital improvement projects over $1.79 million, the additional funding must be approved by voters. The total estimated cost for the project is $2.4 million.
Officials from the fire department and city hall were not available for comment regarding the specific uses of the building. If approved, the new training facility will be a valuable asset for the city of Bangor, providing essential training and equipment maintenance space for firefighters and other safety personnel. Voters will have the opportunity to support this important project in November for the benefit of public safety in the community.
