Boston’s Brayan Bello put on a pitching clinic on Wednesday night, throwing eight scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. This was the longest outing of Bello’s career, and he struck out nine batters while only giving up two hits. Kenley Jansen came in to pitch a perfect ninth inning for his 25th save of the season.
The Red Sox got on the board early in the first inning when Jarren Duran singled and later scored on Wilyer Abreu’s single. Chris Bassitt pitched well for the Blue Jays, striking out nine over 6.2 innings, but he was ultimately tagged with the loss after giving up a two-run homer to Tyler O’Neill in the eighth inning.
Despite being swept by the Blue Jays earlier in the week, the Red Sox have now won two in a row and will look to keep their momentum going as the playoff race heats up. Bello’s dominant performance on the mound was a bright spot for the team and will provide a boost as they continue their push for the postseason.
