WGME 13’s Sports Director, Dave Eid, and athletic administrator Gary Stevens have joined forces to write a book titled “Stolen Seasons – How Maine Sports Survived the COVID-19 Pandemic.” The book explores the impact of the pandemic on sports at all levels, from school sports being canceled to professional teams like the Portland Sea Dogs and Maine Mariners unable to play. Despite the challenges, sports eventually resumed, but not without consequences.
“Stolen Seasons” delves into how the loss of sports opportunities spurred Mainers to find ways to recover and adapt in the face of the pandemic. The book highlights the resilience, creativity, and resolve of those involved in sports in Maine during this tumultuous time. It showcases the heroic and selfless efforts made by individuals in the sports community to navigate through the uncertainty and challenges brought about by the pandemic.
This book provides a glimpse into the journey of Mainers in the sports world as they worked towards a future amidst unprecedented circumstances. “Stolen Seasons” is available at bookstores throughout Maine and online, offering readers a firsthand account of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sports industry in the state. With insightful perspectives from Eid and Stevens, this book serves as a poignant reminder of the strength and unity displayed by Mainers in the face of adversity.
