NPP could exit office with the largest scandal of judgment debts

In an interview on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, US-based medical practitioner Dr. Arthur Kennedy, who was once a presidential candidate hopeful of the NPP, raised concerns about the issue of judgment debt in Ghana. He highlighted the practice of abandoning public housing projects whenever there is a change in government, leading to financial losses for the state.

Dr. Kennedy pointed out that this problem has been prevalent since the era of President Jerry John Rawlings, with almost every government starting major public housing projects that are never completed. He emphasized the importance of continuity in government projects as outlined in Article 35(7) of the 1992 Constitution, stating that the lack of follow-through on these projects by successive administrations could lead to significant financial repercussions.

The medical practitioner warned that if the current NPP government follows the trend of abandoning projects upon leaving office, it could result in one of the biggest judgment debt scandals in Ghana’s history. Dr. Kennedy urged for a more responsible approach to governance, with a focus on completing existing projects to avoid unnecessary financial burdens on the state.
