The 6th President of Thomas College is announced

Thomas College in Waterville announced on Thursday the appointment of Jeannine Diddle Uzzi as its sixth president. Uzzi, currently serving as the vice president of academic affairs at Adler University in Chicago, will take over from outgoing President Laurie Lachance on November 1.

Prior to her role at Adler University, Uzzi served as provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. During her time at USM, Uzzi made significant strides in improving student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates. She also played a key role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.

With a background in classical languages and a Ph.D. from Duke University, Uzzi is committed to ensuring that Thomas College remains sustainable and inclusive. She emphasized the importance of providing access to education to students from diverse backgrounds, both from Maine and beyond.

Outgoing President Lachance expressed her confidence in Uzzi, stating that she brings a wealth of experience in higher education and a deep understanding of Thomas College’s mission in preparing Maine’s workforce for the future. Uzzi’s appointment has been met with enthusiasm and optimism for the college’s future.

Uzzi’s leadership training and commitment to diversity and inclusion make her a valuable addition to Thomas College, and she is poised to guide the institution towards continued success in the evolving landscape of higher education.
