12-year-old girl from Presque Isle shoots first bear using her grandfather’s gun

Londynn Langley, a 12-year-old from Presque Isle, shot her first bear on youth day 2024 with her grandfather’s .35 Remington rifle. With a family history of hunting that spans generations, Londynn has been hunting since she was just 6 years old, starting with turkeys and grouse. Her grandfather, Mike Langley, a retired Maine guide, has been instrumental in nurturing her interest in hunting.

The successful bear hunt took place at a bait site that the family has used for nearly a decade. After patiently waiting in a ground blind, Londynn finally had a shot at the bear and hit it in the shoulder. The 103-pound boar didn’t go far before they found it.

Londynn plans to use the meat from the bear for various dishes, including ground meat for burgers and summer sausage. Additionally, she will have a half-body mount made for her wall, hinting that she might place it near the front door to surprise visitors.

Despite her favorite hunt being for turkeys, Londynn expressed interest in going bear hunting again in the future. She encourages others to give hunting a try, describing it as a fun and rewarding experience. With the support of her family, particularly her grandfather, Londynn’s successful bear hunt has added another chapter to their rich hunting tradition.
