$2,000 Reward Offered for Information on Illegal Fishing Net in Maine Trout River

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, in partnership with the Maine Warden Service, is offering a $2,000 reward for information on the illegal gillnet found in the Magalloway River. The net, discovered by an angler, contained two large brook trout and other fish species. Gillnets are harmful to fish populations and the use of them is illegal. The reward for information has been doubled to $2,000. Anyone with information is urged to contact Operation Game Thief. Maine Game Wardens and MDIFW Fisheries staff are concerned about the impact of this illegal net on the trout in the Magalloway River, a premier trout stream in Maine. The net was 36 feet long and 9 feet deep, posing a significant threat to fish in the area. The illegal net could have caused serious damage to the fish population in the river. This incident highlights the importance of protecting Maine’s precious wildlife and ecosystems from illegal and harmful practices.
