Republican Senator Shannon Grove introduced a bill to make soliciting sex from a minor a felony offense, but LGBTQ+ activists argued against it, claiming that it would harm marginalized communities within the LGBTQ+ community. The bill was ultimately weakened as a result of their opposition, allowing for lighter penalties for offenders.
The LGBTQ+ community’s stance on the issue has sparked controversy, with many questioning why the community is trying to frame soliciting children for sex as part of a sexual identity rather than a crime. Advocates argue that efforts to protect children from exploitation should be the priority, rather than shielding offenders from consequences.
There is a growing concern that the LGBTQ+ movement’s association with the sex trade is harming women and children and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
