Vice President Kamala Harris defended her shift towards more moderate policies in a recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, stating that her values have not changed and she is focused on finding consensus. Harris, along with running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, addressed issues such as fracking, illegal border crossings, and Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza. She also brushed off criticism from former President Donald Trump regarding her racial identity.
The interview comes as voters are still getting to know the Democratic ticket following Joe Biden’s resignation just five weeks ago. Harris emphasized her respect for Biden and his endorsement of her as his successor. The upcoming debate between Harris and Trump on September 10 is highly anticipated, as it will be the first time the two have faced off.
Meanwhile, Democrats are expressing high enthusiasm for the upcoming election, with polls showing increased excitement among party members compared to earlier this year. Harris, speaking at a rally in Savannah, Georgia, portrayed her campaign as the underdog and urged supporters to work hard in the final stretch before the election.
The rally concluded a two-day bus tour in southeastern Georgia, with Harris and Biden planning additional campaign events in Detroit and Pittsburgh on Labor Day. With the election rapidly approaching and the first mail-in ballots set to be sent out in just two weeks, the Democratic ticket is focusing on energizing voters and highlighting their policy positions.
