The Israeli military has announced the completion of ground operations in parts of the Gaza Strip, resulting in devastation and displacement of the population. The military claimed to have killed 250 fighters without providing evidence. Palestinians evacuated from Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah will now be allowed to return, as Israel continues to escalate attacks in other areas.
The war, which has been ongoing for almost 11 months, has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians and injuries to more than 90,000. The vast majority of the population has been displaced. The army has now allowed Palestinians to return to the neighbourhoods of Hamad, al-Jalaa, and al-Qarara in Khan Younis, which had been evacuated during the armed operation.
Despite Israel’s claims of creating humanitarian zones, there is no safe place in Gaza according to United Nations agencies and international humanitarian groups. Israel has a history of bombing these “safe zones” and issuing evacuation orders. The military’s actions have left a trail of destruction and suffering in Gaza.
The situation in Gaza remains dire as the conflict continues to escalate. The international community has called for an end to the violence and for both sides to engage in dialogue to achieve a lasting peace. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in a humanitarian crisis that must be addressed by the global community.
