The FIFA Council has delayed its decision on a Palestinian bid to suspend Israel from international football until October. The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) had submitted a proposal in May, alleging Israel’s complicity in violations of international law, discrimination against Arab players, and including clubs located in Palestinian territory in its league. FIFA had ordered a legal evaluation and promised to address it at an extraordinary meeting in July, but has now postponed the decision to October. The PFA claims that at least 92 Palestinian players have been killed, football infrastructure has been destroyed, and its national team is forced to play World Cup qualifiers abroad due to the war in Gaza. The PFA is seeking “appropriate sanctions” against Israeli teams, including the national side and clubs. The Israel Football Association (IFA) has rejected the allegations. FIFA has received the legal assessment of the PFA’s proposals and will share it with the council for review in October. The exact date of the meeting in October has not been disclosed, but the PFA’s bid for action against Israel in international football remains ongoing.
