Hailee Lindelof, a 20-year-old senior at Thomas College in Waterville, is the youngest field hockey coach in the area, leading the Mount View High School team. Despite having a small roster, Lindelof’s energy and relatability have already made a positive impact on her players during the preseason. The team, which has no seniors this fall, is focused on building a strong foundation for the future. Lindelof’s emphasis on teaching fundamentals has shown early success, with the team winning a scrimmage 11-0.
Mount View Athletic Director Krysta Hustus hired Lindelof due to her energetic coaching style and knowledge of the sport. Hustus, who was once the youngest athletic administrator in the state, believes in the importance of having young coaches in the profession. Lindelof, a former standout player at Belfast Area High School and college field hockey player, decided to transition into coaching after experiencing injuries during her playing career.
Lindelof’s coaching experience includes leading a middle school girls’ basketball team and the Belfast boys junior varsity basketball team. Her ability to connect with players and focus on skill development has been well-received by the teams she has coached. Despite her young age, Lindelof’s dedication and passion for coaching have earned her the admiration of her players and colleagues.
With Lindelof at the helm, the Mount View field hockey team is looking forward to a successful season and continued growth under her guidance. As a new generation of coaches emerges, Lindelof’s leadership and coaching style are setting a positive example for young athletes in the community.
