Gold Star families release statement in support of Trump’s visit to Arlington

Former President Donald Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery on August 26 to honor Sgt. Nicole Gee and other service members who were killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan. His visit has sparked controversy, with Vice President Kamala Harris accusing him of politicizing the deaths. However, Gold Star families who lost loved ones in the bombing defended Trump, saying he was invited by them to attend the ceremonies.

The families released a joint statement praising Trump for honoring their loved ones and criticizing Harris for turning the visit into a political ploy. Trump laid wreaths for the fallen service members and thanked the families for their support.

Christy Shamblin, Gee’s mother-in-law, spoke out in support of Trump, calling him respectful and comforting to the families. She also directly addressed Harris, questioning her handling of the situation and accusing her of disparaging the fallen service members.

Since leaving office, Trump has been critical of Harris and the Biden administration’s handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal. He has focused on Harris’ role in foreign policy decisions and highlighted her statements about being the last person in the room with Biden before the withdrawal was decided.

Despite the controversy surrounding his visit to Arlington, Trump continues to defend his actions and criticize the Biden administration’s execution of the withdrawal. Gold Star families and supporters have rallied behind him, praising him for honoring the fallen service members and accusing Harris of politicizing the event.
