In a recent overnight missile attack, Russia pounded Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv, causing injuries, fires, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Ukraine’s air defence units managed to intercept and destroy several missiles, with air raid alerts going out across the country. Neighbouring Nato member Poland activated aircraft to protect its airspace during the attacks. The attack injured at least two people, with a boiler house at a water plant and a metro station doubling as a bomb shelter being partially damaged.
In response to perceived western escalation in the conflict, Russia plans to make changes to its nuclear doctrine. Ukrainian forces also carried out a significant drone attack on Russia, targeting power stations and refineries. In eastern Ukraine, Russian forces continued to advance towards Pokrovsk, causing casualties and capturing settlements. In other incidents, a shopping mall in Kharkiv was hit by Russian missiles, and a Ukrainian helicopter crashed, killing its crew. Ukrainian forces also shelled Russia’s southern Belgorod region, injuring civilians. The Finnish government is considering a ban on Russians buying property in Finland.
Despite the ongoing conflict and airstrikes, Ukraine remains resilient and continues to defend itself. The situation in the region remains tense, with both sides engaging in various military actions. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with calls for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
