Residents of Begin Road in North Jay will experience a temporary road closure as repairs are being made to the heavily damaged road caused by flooding. The Select Board awarded the construction contract for stream crossing to J Pratt Construction for $365,763. Residents will be rerouted via the Whistle Stop Rail Trail onto Macomber Hill Road while the repairs are underway. This section of the trail will be open for residents of Begin Road to drive on, but motor vehicles are not allowed to travel north on the trail toward Farmington. The reconstruction is expected to take two to two and a half weeks, depending on the weather.
The Whistle Stop Rail Trail, a more than 14-mile trail used by ATV riders, runs from downtown Jay to West Farmington. The section in North Jay to Wilton was just reopened in August after being fixed. The repair work on Begin Road is a necessary step to ensure the safety and convenience of residents in the area. This temporary arrangement will allow for a smooth flow of traffic while the road is being repaired. The town is taking proactive steps to address the damage caused by the torrential downpours and flooding and is committed to completing the reconstruction in a timely manner. Residents are encouraged to follow the designated reroute and cooperate with any traffic instructions provided during this period.
