Search underway for potential suspect in Kentucky highway shootings injuring five

Authorities in southeastern Kentucky are searching for 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch, a person of interest in the shooting of nine vehicles and wounding of five people on Interstate 75 on Saturday. The shooter, who was not in a vehicle at the time, fired multiple rounds into both northbound and southbound lanes near exit 49. The wounded individuals are in stable condition, with some sustaining serious injuries.

Residents of Laurel County are on edge as law enforcement scours a remote wooded area near the highway for Couch, who is considered armed and dangerous. Pastor Rodney Goodlett of Faith Assembly of God in London said the community is shaken by the random violence that has hit close to home. Authorities have not determined if Couch is the actual shooter, but they have the area contained and are working diligently to locate him.

London Mayor Randall Weddle reassured residents to stay safe and report anything suspicious to 911, while State lawmakers from Laurel County advised people to stay home during the search. Gov. Andy Beshear offered support and called for prayers for everyone involved in the situation.

The search for Couch is dangerous and challenging due to the rugged terrain and thick foliage in the area. Authorities are hoping for a peaceful resolution as the investigation continues. Goodlett mentioned that the congregation at Faith Assembly of God is praying for the community, the wounded, and the first responders involved in the search for the suspect.
