The Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame has announced the finalists for the 2024 Student Athlete of the Year Award, as well as the two Honored Teams for this year. The Student Athlete Finalists, chosen from multiple midcoast schools, are recognized for their outstanding achievements in their sports and their attributes as student-athletes. All finalists will be honored at the Annual Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame Banquet to be held in October.
The Honored Teams for 2024 include the 1975 & 1976 state championship Girls Ski Teams from Camden-Rockport High School and the 1958 state championship football team from Boothbay Region High School. The Student Athlete Finalists include athletes from various sports such as basketball, wrestling, softball, and track & field, among others.
Among the Female Finalists is Bailey Breen from Oceanside High School, who has excelled in basketball and various other sports, leading her team to multiple championships and receiving numerous accolades. Another standout athlete is Maddie Ripley from Oceanside High School, who has achieved remarkable success in field hockey, wrestling, and softball, with multiple MVP awards and championship titles.
On the male side, athletes like Cohen Galley from Oceanside High School, and Marshall Addy from Medomak Valley High School, stand out for their achievements in football and wrestling, respectively. These athletes have shown exceptional dedication and skill in their sports, as well as leadership qualities on and off the field.
Despite facing challenges and disruptions due to COVID-19, these athletes have persevered and continued to excel in their respective sports. The finalists represent the best of the Midcoast sports community and are deserving of this prestigious recognition.
