A Sullivan man is facing a slew of charges after two separate vehicle incidents in Ellsworth. Bruce Dieter, 22, allegedly stole a woman’s truck and almost ran her over as he sped away. He then crashed the truck into trees a few hundred feet down the road. He then fled on foot into the woods, where he was later found and arrested by the police.
It was later discovered that Dieter had also crashed another vehicle that he had borrowed through road closure barricades that same morning. The truck owner identified Dieter as the one who had crashed her vehicle after abandoning it following the crash.
Dieter has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct, leaving the scene of an accident, and criminal threatening. Police are also considering other charges. The incidents occurred early Tuesday morning and involved reckless behavior that endangered others.
The Ellsworth Police Department shared details of the incidents on their Facebook page. Dieter’s actions caused chaos and danger on the road and resulted in damage to multiple vehicles. The quick response from the police led to his arrest shortly after the incidents occurred. Dieter is currently being held at the Hancock County Jail.
