The University of Maine men’s basketball team has unveiled its non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season, highlighted by an opening game against Cooper Flagg’s Duke Blue Devils in Durham. The Black Bears will be compensated $80,000 for facing the top-tier Duke team on the road.
Following the Duke matchup, UMaine will face UMaine-Fort Kent at home and then play three Atlantic 10 Conference teams – Richmond, Fordham, and Duquesne. Both Richmond and Fordham will pay UMaine for their guaranteed games, with details of the Duquesne matchup still pending.
UMaine’s head coach, Chris Markwood, emphasized that the schedule rotation varies annually, and the lack of Power Five conference opponents for this season is coincidental. The team is prepared to face challenging competition from the Atlantic 10 schools.
The Black Bears will also play a mix of home and away games against teams like Holy Cross, UMaine-Augusta, Boston University, Brown, Quinnipiac, and Stony Brook. The team will compete in a series of games in Philadelphia as part of Penn’s Cathedral Classic Invitational.
Looking to bounce back from consecutive losing seasons, UMaine is eager to test their skills against a variety of opponents before diving into America East play in the New Year. Fans can expect an exciting season as the Black Bears aim to make their mark against a diverse range of teams.
