Hampden Academy football dominates John Bapst at UMaine

The Hampden Academy football team continued their winning streak, improving to 2-0 after defeating John Bapst 24-14 at Harold Alfond Stadium in Orono. The Broncos, led by junior quarterback Gavin Monyok, never trailed in the game and showcased an impressive offensive performance. Monyok threw for 295 yards and rushed for 70 more, with four passes of over 30 yards and a touchdown pass to senior Andrew Cote. The team also saw contributions from senior ball carriers Kaysen Wildman, Evan Preston, and James Rice, who combined for 88 yards on the night.

This victory comes after a thrilling home opener win against Skowhegan, where Cote made three kickoff return touchdowns. The Broncos have now achieved their first two-game winning streak since 2013. On the other hand, John Bapst fell to a 0-2 record after losing to Nokomis last week.

Both head coaches commented on the game, highlighting Monyok’s exceptional performance and Bapst’s resilience despite being a young team with only five seniors. The future looks bright for both teams as they continue to work hard and improve on their performances. Hampden Academy remains focused on exceeding expectations and continuing their winning streak as the season progresses.
